Seasonal Canine Illness - SCI
In recent years, during autumn, several dogs which have been walked in woodlands suddenly became ill. In some cases, dogs did not recover. Cases of this illness, named Seasonal Canine Illness, are usually seen from August to November. It can affect dogs of any size, breed or sex and it causes dogs to become very ill after being walked in woodland.
The most common symptoms are vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy and appear within 24 to 72 hours after having been walked in woodland. If you suspect that your pet is showing signs of SCI then you must contact your vet immediately.
There are five woodland areas which are of particular interest, but pets could be at risk in any woodland area so please stay vigilant.
